Places to shop for wardrobe basics

If you’re anything like me, you own so many clothes yet have hardly any outfits. Recently I’ve been focussing on purchasing some basic pieces to build my wardrobe. Wardrobe basics are versatile pieces of clothing in neutral colours. I try to shop for clothes like tops in neutral colours such as tan, white and black, jeans in black and a light wash denim, jackets in black, tan and charcoal and jumpers in charcoal and brown colours. When I began shopping for these clothes I really struggled to find places that offered high quality clothing at a reasonable price point. Here are some of the favourite places that I found.

• Zara

Zara gained popularity this year after people discovered their famous jeans. The Zara jeans are a favourite wardrobe staple as they can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. Some pairs that I’m loving right now are:

The 90s Slim Cropped Jeans

These jeans offer a high waisted style which can be worn with almost anything. The colour of the jeans can be worn with many other colours and is a wardrobe staple over winter. Find them here

Mom Jeans

Like anyone, I love the ‘mom jean’ style that has become more popular over the past year. This style of jean is my most worn style because of how versatile it is. I wear these with a sneaker and a crew neck jumper for an everyday outfit but I love being able to style jeans with a blazer and strappy heels to wear for a night out. Find them here

• Cotton On

Cotton On has largely grown as a brand when they recently began to embrace wardrobe basics over colourful prints. The shirts that Cotton On are currently offering are so easy to style for any occasion and the fabric they are made of is soft and comfortable. Some on my wish list right now are:

The One Organic Rib Crew Short Sleeve Tee

With 8 colours to choose from, this top can be worn for any occasion. The ribbed fabric offers the shirt another feature to add to an outfit. I would style this shirt with mom jeans, sneakers, a gold necklace and a crossbody bag for a coffee date outfit. My favourite colours of the shirt are ‘cocoa bean’, ‘light grey marle’, ‘white’ and ‘black’. Find yours here

The Turn Back Tank

This tank is definitely going to be a staple in my wardrobe this summer. With a large selection of 15 (!) colours, this tank can be worn with any outfit and styled to suit any occasion. The tank features a ribbed fabric that brings it apart from your usual tank top. The thick straps of the top stop it from digging into your shoulders. I’m loving this top in the colour ‘dusty mint’, a sage green colour that goes with everything. I would style this with jeans and an undone button up shirt and sneakers for a casual outfit and with a blazer and pants with sandals or heels for a dressy occasion. Find one here

• Uniqlo

Uniqlo has always been one of my favourite places to shop for knits and puffer jackets. I love their affordable price point that still offers quality clothing. Some of my favourite pieces at the moment are:

Women Extra Fine Merino Wool Turtleneck Sweater

This turtleneck sweater is a favourite for winter. The high neck allows it to be worn underneath a blazer or jacket without a scarf. The merino wool that the sweater is made from offers warmth so the sweater can easily be worn in winter. Find your own here

Women Ultra Light Down Cocoon Parka

A puffer is easily one of my favourite pieces to wear over winter. This ultra light down one from Uniqlo is offered in the colours black, pink and blue and can be stuffed into a sac for easy storage. The puffer would look amazing styled with jeans and a jumper underneath and sneakers for a casual coffee run. Find one here

• Decjuba

One brand that has recently caught my attention is Decjuba and its sub-brand D-Luxe Basics. They offer basic wardrobe staples at an affordable price point made out of quality materials. Many pieces are offered in neutral colours which offer easy outfit styling. Some current pieces I love are:

D-Luxe Active Boyfriend Hoodie

After buying this hoodie recently, I haven’t taken it off! The material is soft and so comfortable to wear at my desk while working from home. I love the colour of the hoodie as it can be styled with light wash jeans and sneakers to wear out or tracksuit pants to wear at home. The ‘boyfriend’ fit of the hoodie allows it to be oversized yet still flattering. Find your own here

Tilly Relaxed Blazer

This blazer is a staple for every wardrobe. A black blazer can easily be styled with a pair of jeans and sneakers for a casual night out or with pants, strappy heels and sparkly makeup to offer a statement look. Find one to add to your wardrobe here
